Joonz DC is a Curaçao-born, Amsterdam-raised rapper who raps in American English.
Joonz DC was born in Curaçao. At eight he left for Amsterdam, first Amsterdam Southeast and later Amsterdam Old West. Amsterdam was where the money moved, and he grew up in the middle of it.
He grew up on Tupac. Dutch rap was barely a thing then; the best music was American, and he could speak American young. That is why he raps in American English today, and why a third of his audience is in the United States.
Extince, the Dutch hip-hop pioneer, had love for American rap. He saw the talent, put Joonz DC on and took him along on a Top Notch tour through the Netherlands, with Deams on the road too.
When Covid hit, the plans fell apart: he was working with a UK artist and a UK manager and could not fly. He went to work security and became a bouncer on the doors of the Red Light District and Leidseplein.
Since 2 July 2025 he has released 27 singles, about one every two weeks, and he does the audio himself in Logic. The next batch taps the raw side of the streets.
